Barcelona airport stablishes itself as the second European airport in Origin & Destination traffic

Barcelona consolidates its position as the 7th European airport by passenger numbers. The airport increases its advantage with its direct competitors (London Gatwick, Munich and Rome Fiumicino). Barcelona airport stablishes itself as the second European airport in Origin & Destination traffic, ahead of Paris Charles de Gaulle and just below London Heathrow. Barcelona remains the 5th European city in Origin and Destination traffic, threatening the position of the Russian capital.

Strong growth of Amsterdam airport (+7.7%), which continues its upward trend in the ranking threatening the second position, occupied by Paris Charles de Gaulle. Both CDG and LHR moderate their growth in the first 9 months of 2017. Istanbul Ataturk and Sabiha moderate their growth (IST +3.7%; SAW +4.4%) from previous years due to the country’s instability. Great recovery of the Moscow airports, where SVO grows by 17% thanks to the progressive recovery of the country’s economy.

Vueling leads the growth in seat offer from January to September 2017, offering more than 900,000 extra seats. It is followed in absolute numbers by Norwegian with 58.3%, thanks to the launch of the new long-haul routes from Barcelona. Ryanair moderates its growth in seats by 3.7% after years of strong increases, while Turkish Airlines (-5.9%), and specially Singapore Airlines (-41.3%) and Air Europa (-11.8%) reduce it significantly by cancelling some frequencies.
