Barcelona-El Prat Airport has started the New Year with passenger growth. Specifically, 2,517,214 users passed through the facility in Barcelona in January, recording an increase of 14.2% compared to the same month in 2015.
By areas, in passenger growth non-EU international flights stood out last month with a rise of 15.7%, followed by EU passengers with 14.4%. As for national growth, this has also continued in recent months to stand at 13.4% more than the same month last year.
In the intercontinental sector, by market, the Middle East has the highest rate with 22.3% growth, followed by Latin America with 19.8% and North America with 16.3%.
Regarding operations, last January there were 19,332 aircraft movements, an increase of 5.5%, with most growth in international movements: 6.5% more than in the same period in 2015.
Finally, airfreight continues to grow during the beginning of the year. This month there has been 18.8% more than in 2015, with 9,273 tonnes of goods moved; particularly cargo from/to non-EU international countries, with 38.8% growth.
