Catalonia was clearly the place to visit for foreign tourists to Spain in 2011, with nearly 14 million visitors to the territory from overseas, almost 5% up on the previous year. This figure represented approximately one quarter (24.3%) of all visitor numbers to Spain.

Moreover, Catalonia broke its own record for revenue from overseas tourism, with a total of €11.3 billion notched up, some 8% more than the year before.

All in all, Catalonia welcomed a total of 23.5 million visitors, including domestic tourists, those from the rest of Spain and abroad, which represents a 5.7% year on year rise.
