The new route from the Catalan capital will strengthen Spain as an important hub for the Mediterranean region.
LATAM Airlines Group will provide a new direct flight linking Barcelona with Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport from 1 October.
The flight will leave Barcelona on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; in the opposite direction, the flight from Sao Paulo will leave on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The route will be operated with Airbus A330 aircraft.
The new route from the Catalan capital will strengthen Spain as an important hub for the Mediterranean region and will connect travellers from anywhere in Europe with the main hub of the LATAM Airlines Group located in Guarulhos Airport.
According to Nicolas Goldstein, general manager of Long Haul Business in the LATAM Airlines Group, "Barcelona is our second destination in Spain and our sixth in Europe. With this new direct connection, we are further expanding our connectivity with the South American continent and increasing the supply for our customers who are traveling for business or sightseeing".
The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) has launched a web platform with tools for businessmen, entrepreneurs and potential future investors, including a search engine with around 600 business services and a search engine for industrial estates, premises and sites and logistics all over the metropolis.
The service search engine, which is public, open and free, makes available to investors, businessmen and entrepreneurs around 600 services and resources for economic development of the different administrations, municipalities and institutions operating in the territory of the AMB. In its beta version, the search engine includes a total of 599 services, 237 supra-municipal and 362 municipal. In all, there are 128 service providers, 44 supra-municipal and 84 municipal. It will have worldwide SEO – in search engines – and is currently available in three languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.
The second tool is the search engine for industrial premises and sites, with comprehensive
information of 236 industrial estates in the metropolitan area of Barcelona and including real estate offers for industrial premises and land and logistics in the 36 metropolitan municipalities. It is available for web and mobile media, in the form of a mobile application (app). The app Servei AMB Naus i Solars is available for mobile devices that work with Android, Google; iOS, Apple; and Windows Phone OS.
At the same time, the analysis of these new data, hitherto fragmented and opaque, will enable the status and trends of demand and market supply to be known.
AMB has also launched a line of subsidies worth 30 million euros to improve infrastructure and competitiveness of industrial estates and economic activity in the metropolitan area.

The company Maxchief, engaged in manufacturing office, garden and hotel furniture, has leased a logistics platform of 4,800 square metres in the Barcelona town of Llinars del Vallès.
The logistics facility, which has an interior height of 10 metres and 4 loading and unloading bays, is located in Industrial Estate A7 Llinars Park, in the municipality of Llinars del Vallès, 33 km from the city of Barcelona. In addition, it has direct access on and off the AP-7motorway, 30 minutes from El Prat Airport and the Port of Barcelona.
The property consultant Estrada & Partners advised Maxchief in leasing this logistics facility.

The Amada Group, a leading global manufacturer of machinery for processing sheet metal

The Japanese multinational Amada has opened its new headquarters in Gava, frpm where it will provide commercial and technical service to customers on the Iberian Peninsula.
In this project, the Catalan branch of the group, Amada Maquinària Ibérica, has received support from the area of attracting foreign investment of ACCIÓ, the Catalan agency for business competitiveness set up by the Catalan Government.
The Japanese multinational has invested one million euros in this new site which replaces
and expands the one it had until now in Cornellà. The change of location is not only a physical change, but also represents a change of strategy in order to improve the positioning of the company before the customer. The subsidiary of Gava, reporting directly to the European headquarters based in the UK, will serve sales, after sales, printing, and machinery adaption according to the needs of buyers.

In cumulative terms, during the first two months of the year, exports rose by 1.9% compared to the same period last year, above the European Union average (-0.1%).
Catalan exports grew 2.7% in February year-on-year, reaching 4,990 million euros. It is the highest ever figure for February according to ACCIÓ, the Catalan agency for business competitiveness in the Department of Enterprise and Employment.
In fact, the 2.7% growth year-on-year in February was above the average for the euro zone (+ 2.6%), representing 25.1% of all foreign sales in Spain during the month of February. The increase in exports in February, according to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, was driven by export growth of the automotive (+ 8.2%) and chemicals (+ 2.8%) sectors.
The ZAL still has 279,500 m2 of land on which to build more than 180,000 m2 of new logistics warehouses, which enables it to offer flexibility to its customers in response to any type of logistics need.
2014 for the ZAL of the Port of Barcelona meant its consolidation as a logistics infrastructure partner for its customers, valuing above all its flexibility and customer orientation, which is demonstrated by the confidence of existing customers in opting for the ZAL to consolidate their growth, such as Districenter, DB Schenker, Naeko Logistics, Tipsa, Eis Marítimo, Docks, Decathlon, Westwing, TLSA, WDFG, Agility, Nippon Express, ... which together with the addition of new customers such as Molenbergnatie and Envialia have led the company to have an occupancy rate of 94% at year end, having leased 58,000 m2 new premises net in 2014.
Continuing with CSR policies that characterise the company, it is worth highlighting the 6,000 m2 that were donated free of charge to the Food Bank Foundation for the Gran Recapte 2014 campaign, and the contract renewal with the Cares Foundation for whom CILSA is a founding patron.
In addition, during the month of December, CILSA exercised its preferential right to purchase the German bank UBS, a logistics enclave with premises of 16,300 m2 and a 28,000 m2 plot located in the ZAL Prat with Seur Operations as the tenant, which is an excellent opportunity to recover a reference asset and incorporate it into the existing concession, enabling the development of the second phase of the ZAL to be consolidated.
Today, CILSA manages 212 hectares located in the municipalities of Barcelona (69 ha) and El Prat de Llobregat (143 ha) and has built directly in the ZAL a total of 403,280 m2 logistics warehouses that are available for leasing as well as a 11,254 m2 office building known as Service Center. Likewise, CILSA has granted leasehold rights to customers who have built 211,000 m2 of premises, forming a logistics park of 625,534 m2, a pioneer in Spain in this type of development.
The ZAL still has 279,500 m2 of land on which to build more than 180,000 m2 of new logistics warehouses, which enables it to offer flexibility to its customers in response to any type of logistics need, making it a business partner with whom to accompany their growth in the medium and long term in an ideal location, reaching more than 800,000 m2 of top level logistics infrastructure when fully developed.
Proof of this is that in the ZAL over 5,000 people work directly in more than 130 renowned companies, both national and international, such as Decathlon, Carrefour, Alfil/Grupo DAMM, Indukern, Kühne+Nagel Naeko Logistics, Rhenus, Transnatur, World Duty Free Group, CMA-CGM, etc.
The sector segments implanted in the ZAL are represented by import and export distributors and manufacturers, together with logistics operators (80%); and freight forwarders, with 16%. Likewise, owing to the exponential growth of the e-commerce sector the courier segment is beginning to be significant.
Aena has completed the first phase of the commercial refurbishment of terminal T1 of Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with a new commercial offer that includes new brands and designs of premises. The reform adapts the offer to passengers’ tastes and responds to their needs with a wide range of premium brands. Notably, for example, the area dedicated to luxury items with exclusive products and high-end brands.
During the first quarter of the year, 15 new stores opened with new prestigious brands such as Mango Man, Violeta by Mango, Oysho, Calzedonia, Wonkandy, Superskunk, Obey your body and Aristocrazy. The new design and refurbishment of premises entailed an estimated investment of 2 million euros on behalf of tenderers.
The 15 premises, covering the sectors of fashion and accessories, footwear, lingerie, costume jewellery, cosmetics, and press, among others, are located in the Shopping Centre area (10) the Square (3) and the check-in area (2) of terminal T1.
Other areas up for tender
Meanwhile, six commercial spaces have been put up for tender, intended for activities such as electronics, fashion or sunglasses; a new opportunity for brands that would like to be present in the airport’s commercial area. Of these premises, 4 will be airside and 2 will be landside.
This refurbishment is carried out after the completion of contracts in force until December 2014. Once completed, T1 of Barcelona-El Prat Airport will, over the next five years, have 55 stores that will occupy a surface area of approximately 12,200 m2.
Norwegian plans to commence Billund-New York service in 2017, according to CEO Bjørn Kjos (TIC.travel, 22-Apr-2015). Mr Kjos said: “Currently, Norwegian does not fly long-haul with the Dreamliner from Billund. The market is not large enough. But in 2017 we will receive the new Boeing 737 MAX, which can fly directly across the Atlantic. So we'll create a route from Billund to New York.” Mr Kjos added: “It will not be to one of the major airports in New York for example JF Kennedy airport. It will be to an airport in the vicinity of New York.”
