Barcelona, Top International City in terms of Economic Promotion
Barcelona has been chosen as the top international city in terms of economic promotion by the Finantial Time’s publication fDi Magazine. The city has taken top honors at the inaugural fDi Strategy Awards 2016. The publication has also awarded Barcelona’s City Council City Promotion Area as the Top Investment Promotion Agency of the year.
Barcelona has been chosen as the top international city in terms of economic promotion by the Finantial Time’s publication fDi Magazine. The city has taken top honors at the inaugural fDi Strategy Awards 2016. The publication has also awarded Barcelona’s City Council City Promotion Area as the Top Investment Promotion Agency of the year.
Barcelona also stands out in other 46 individual categories, such as result-oriented management, diversification strategy and web strategy. According to the British publication, Barcelona features a well-defined and conceived strategy that combines an smart use of technology and urban planning strategies with efficiency in terms of promotion, which have resulted in a foreign direct inversion (FDI) increase in the city, and therefore in Catalonia.
Barcelona has also ranked fifth in the biannual Global Cities of the Future (2016-2017) list, which explores the cities and emerging urban clusters that will drive dramatic growth and demographic changes over the next generation through economic growth, business-oriented services and quality of life, among others.
Adding up to both awards, Barcelona has also positioned itself eighth in the KPMG’s Global Cities Investment Monitor, which ranks the world’s main urban areas in terms of foreign investment projects in the 2012-2016 period. Barcelona accounts for 36% of the foreign investment operations in the Spanish market.
