Barcelona, 28 August 2023: The Barcelona Air Routes Development Committee (BARDC), in its Strategic Plan 2021-2024, has as its main objective the recovery of routes/companies that operated before the pandemic, the increase of capacity in some existing destinations with high demand but low supply, as well as the increase of new routes to new destinations. The recovery and creation of routes to Asia is a fundamental point for the BARDC, for Barcelona's connectivity and its synergies with industries and companies with links to Catalonia and China. In 2019 we had a high demand, with more than 433,492 indirect passengers by origin and destination (O&D) between Barcelona and China. Since China was closed until a few months ago, it has been a great challenge to recover JT Barcelona El Prat airport and create new routes. Shenzhen Airlines has confidence in Barcelona and we hope that it will soon be able to grow by increasing frequencies. The Barcelona City Council, on behalf of the BARDC, has been meeting with the local government and the company during its missions to Shenzhen since 2017, working together to make this route via Barcelona a reality. The Barcelona-Shenzhen route, which starts today, demonstrates Shenzhen Airlines' interest in the Catalan market. It will operate the route twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, using an Airbus 330 with 3 classes of service: Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Flights will depart from JT Barcelona El Prat at 11:30 and arrive in Shenzhen at 07:00. Return flights will depart Shenzhen at 00:05 in the evening and arrive in the Catalan capital at 08:05 the following morning. These schedules have been designed to benefit business and leisure travelers with connections within China and internationally to major Asian cities. Source: ShenzhenAirines/BARDC/GPA
