Barcelona, September 19, 2019 – The Barcelona Air Routes Development Committee (BARDC) will participate in the next 2019 World Routes, which takes place from September 21 to 24 in the city of Adelaide (Australia). World Routes is the reference event that brings together airlines, airports, and other interested parties to discuss future global air services. In 2017 Barcelona had the honor of hosting this event.
The delegation of the BARDC, which will have its own stand, including its 4 members (Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; Government of Catalonia - Department of Territory and Sustainability; City of Barcelona - City Promotion; and AENA, S.A.), and also with the collaboration of Acció, the Port of Barcelona, the Catalan Tourism Agency, and Barcelona Tourism.
The work program provides for a schedule of meetings with airlines and airports, in order to continue developing future routes in accordance with the guidelines of the last BARDC Strategic Plan 2018-2019, as well as the consolidation of existing routes.
Currently, the main objectives of the BARDC are to open new Asian routes that are not yet served, such as Tokyo, Delhi, and Bangkok, as well as secondary cities in China, but no less important than the Chinese capitals of region and country. In addition, other unserved routes with the potential to be operated are: Houston, Dallas, Santiago de Guayaquil, Osaka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei City, City of Manila, and Montevideo.
However, the presence at the fair must also help to reinforce existing routes, with more frequencies from destinations such as Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Shanghai, Beijing, Toronto, Montreal, Sao Paulo, and Bogotá D.C., among others.
During 2019, five destinations have been opened: Santiago de Chile, Mexico City, Toronto, Chicago, and New York, alongside Abu Dhabi which was launched at the end of 2018. With these incorporations, there are currently a total of 47 intercontinental destinations.
The BARDC has continuously attended the World Routes since its origins in order to strengthen the visibility of the destination worldwide in collaboration with different organizations involved in promoting new intercontinental routes at Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport.
