Barcelona, June, xx, 2024: WestJet starts its operations at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport with the new route between Barcelona (BCN) and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) with 4 weekly frequencies on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, from 29 June.

The flight will operate on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, which has a capacity of 174 seats.
WestJet currently operates summer service between its main hub in Calgary and Barcelona with 3 weekly frequencies. The new route via Halifax adds X per cent more connectivity from Barcelona.
Routes to North America are a priority according to the strategic objectives of the Barcelona Air Routes Development Committee (BARDC). Within the 2024-2025 Strategic Plan of the BARDC, the Barcelona - Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) route is considered a route that would stimulate this large market, and the BARDC has given it its support for it to be established in Barcelona. Canada is experiencing high demand and steady growth, driven by the attractiveness of Barcelona, commercial and institutional relations, and the values that Canadian citizens place on Catalan art, culture, gastronomy, and climate. As well as cruises departing from the Port of Barcelona to the whole Mediterranean in different formats.
In quantitative terms, in 2024, total indirect O&D traffic between Canada and Barcelona exceeded 167,000 passengers. The Halifax hub offers connectivity to the west of Canada and the east coast of the United States.
