- Aeromexico will connect Barcelona and Mexico City with six weekly flights operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner
- Ties between Barcelona and Mexico City are strong: the Mexican capital ranks among the main destinations for air exports from Barcelona and, in turn, is one of the leading origins of air imports to the region. This is further supported by a significant local Mexican community, strong tourism flows in both directions, and solid business links
- Reinstatement of this route is part of the objectives set out in the 2024–2025 Strategic Plan of the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA)
Barcelona, March 27, 2026 — At an event held at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier, celebrated the relaunch of the route connecting the Catalan capital with Mexico City, with the support of the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC), made up of Aena, the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.
The service will operate from March 27 through January 10, 2027, with six weekly frequencies.
Barcelona thus becomes Aeromexico’s second destination in Spain, alongside Madrid, and the airline will reach four routes connecting this country with three of Mexico’s main cities: Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
Flights operate according to the following schedule:
| ROUTE | Operating days | DEPARTURE | ARRIVAL |
| Barcelona – Mexico City (MEX) | Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays

14:45 | 19:20 |
| Mexico City (MEX) – Barcelona (MEX) | Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
|
17:20 | 12:30 +1* |
Through this route, travelers from Barcelona will have access to Aeromexico’s entire domestic network, enabling fast and efficient connections to more than 50 destinations, including Cancún, Los Cabos, Oaxaca, Mérida, and Puerto Vallarta, among others.
The launch event was attended by Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aeromexico; Sonia Oliveras Zayas, Regional Senior Sales Manager; and representatives of the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC): Vanessa Requena, Head of the Director’s Office at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (Aena); Jordi Candela, Director General of Airports of Catalonia (Government of Catalonia); Silvia Perera, Director of Partnerships and Commercial Relations at the Catalan Tourism Agency (Government of Catalonia); Alicia Casart, Director of Infrastructure Studies at the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; and María del Carmen García-Calvillo Moreno, Deputy Government Delegate in Catalonia.
Regarding the reactivation of this route, Giancarlo Mulinelli stated: “It is a great pleasure to be here today, together with all of you, to celebrate the long-awaited return of this flight connecting Barcelona and Mexico City—two destinations with a wealth of culture and tourism to offer. Barcelona joins our extensive network of destinations, through which we fulfill our goal of connecting Mexico with key cities around the world. We thank the authorities and partners for trusting Aeromexico and working closely with us to make this possible.”
Mr. Jordi Candela, representing the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC), pointed out: “This direct link between Barcelona and Mexico City represents a strategic step in strengthening the airport’s intercontinental connectivity. At BARDC, we welcome Aeromexico’s commitment, which responds to a real demand from both the business and tourism sectors, and contributes to further strengthening economic and cultural ties between Catalonia and Mexico.”
The route is operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, one of the most modern and efficient in Aeromexico’s fleet, offering an enhanced onboard experience thanks to its amenities. This aircraft features full flat-bed seats in the Premier cabin, an in-flight entertainment system, and high-speed WiFi.
