After participating with its own stand for the first time at the World Routes 2016 in Chengdu and the great success as hosts at the World Routes 2017 in Barcelona, the BARDC continues to promote new opportunities for intercontinental links to Barcelona / Catalonia with its presence in the World Routes 2018, which will take place from September 15 to 18 in the city of Guangzhou, capital of the province of Canton, China.
The BARDC participates with a modern and innovative stand that presents Barcelona / Catalonia in the world again. The work program foresees an agenda of meetings with potential airlines for Barcelona and the development of future and potentially viable routes according to the latest Strategic Plan 2018-2019 presented in April, as well as the consolidation of existing routes.
The main objectives of the BARDC right now are the opening of new Asian routes with Tokyo, Delhi and Bangkok and reinforcing with more frequencies existing routes such as Beijing and Shanghai. Mexico and Santiago de Chile are also priority destinations, given the existing demand of passengers.
Other routes not served and with potential to be operated are Dallas, Houston, Guayaquil, Osaka, Manila and Montevideo. In addition, reinforcing routes with more frequencies is another of the major objectives of the Strategic Plan from 2018 to 2019. In this situation are destinations such as New York, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Bogota, among others.
The year 2017 marked a turning point for the intercontinental and long-distance routes of the Barcelona-El Prat airport. A total of 16 new intercontinental routes began to operate in 14 destinations and frequencies increased in 17 existing routes, thus experiencing a strong boost (+ 18.5%) in the intercontinental passage.
The BARDC assists with continuity in the World Routes from its origins and this will be the third consecutive edition in which it has its own stand, in order to reinforce the visibility of the destination worldwide in collaboration with different entities involved in the promotion of new routes intercontinental flights at the Barcelona-El Prat airport.
World Routes is the reference event that brings together airlines, airports and other interested parties to discuss future global air services.
