Barcelona links to Teheran. New direct link with Mahan Air
Mahan Air launches its new route to Barcelona, its eighth European destination from its hub in Tehran. The inaugural flight Mahan W5 136 has landed at the Airport of Barcelona-El Prat at 10:00 local time, being received with the traditional water salute.
H.E the Ambassador of Spain in Iran and a number of airline executives were on board the arriving flight. The aircraft has been greeted by traditional water cannon salute and Passengers and VIP guests have been welcomed by Iranian Ambassador to Spain as well as senior Barcelona Airport and Catalonia tourism officials. The airport ceremony has been organized by Barcelona-El Prat Airport with the presence of members of the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA), agencies and media.
The official ceremony highlighted the importance of this historic flight and the fact that this new route contributes to increase the number of tourists from both countries. In the last year, about 30,000 passengers had to travel throughout other airports in their destination to Barcelona or Tehran. With a 25% increase compared to the previous year, this new direct connection will allow travelers to connect in a faster and more comfortable way. After the interventions, the traditional exchange of gifts and ribbon cutting has been made.
“Mahan has been steadily growing its presence and services to Europe during the past fifteen years and it is proud to have spread its wing to beautiful Barcelona” said Mahan Air’s Vice President of Flight Operations, Captain Pahlevani . “The two countries of Iran and Spain are extremely attractive for tourists from each side and the new nonstop service will facilitate both tourism and business between the two friendly countries.”
The flights will be operated by two Airbus A340-300 / 600 aircraft twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays. These new flights will offer passengers seamless connections to our cities in the Middle East and the Far East throughout our hub at Tehran’s IKA airport. The number of weekly frequencies is expected to increase in near future.
Mahan Air is a full service private airline established in 1992 and is based in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. It covers a network of about 60 destinations in Europe, Middle East and the Far East with a fleet of 52 all Jet transports. It has carried about 5.4 million passengers in 2016 and has about 4700 staff worldwide.
