BARDC FREIGHT MONTHLY REPORT - ABRIL 2022 - JT BARCELONA EL PRAT AIRPORT
The Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC) in its Strategic Plan 2021-2024, has as its main objective the recovery of the routes/companies that operated before the pandemic, as well as increasing new routes to new destinations and/or increasing the capacity of some existing destinations with high demand but little supply.
In support of the recovery of the routes/companies, between today and tomorrow, we will welcome Air Canada, which will offer again the Toronto – Barcelona and Montreal – Barcelona routes, v.v. 6 and 7 May 2022 respectively. Both routes will operate until the end of the summer season 5 frequencies per week with Air bus 330 – 300, offering a capacity of 297 seats with 3 cabins: Economy, Premium Economy and Air Canada Signature Class. The latter offers Pre lie-flat (fully reclining) seats. This is an improvement in service compared to the operation of its subsidiary “Rouge” in 2019.
North America is the most important intercontinental market for Barcelona/Catalonia which, for the moment, is the best recovered, and which will reach the 2019 level during the summer of 2022.
Barcelona/Catalonia is a mainly receptive market for Canada, with an as yet unserved direct demand of more than 155,000 passengers in 2019. It is mainly a seasonal passenger in terms of tourism, closely linked to cruises in the Port of Barcelona, as well as business passengers who will now be able to enjoy a better product in Air Canada’s Premium Economy or Signature Class instead of the previous Rouge low-cost aircraft.
