Barcelona, September 15, 2026. – Iberojet, the airline of the Ávoris Group, is launching a new direct connection between Barcelona and San Salvador, strengthening air connectivity between the Catalan capital and El Salvador.

The new route, operated once a week and nonstop, establishes the first direct connection between Barcelona and San Salvador, facilitating travel between both destinations for both leisure and business travelers.

The Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC) particularly welcomes and supports Iberojet’s commitment to developing connectivity from Barcelona, both through the new route to El Salvador and through the other connections the airline currently operates to Latin America, including Cancún, Punta Cana and Tegucigalpa. This commitment is part of BARDC’s support for the development of new routes and the strengthening of Barcelona’s international connectivity, in line with the new 2030 strategic plan, in which the development of connections with Latin America represents a key priority.

The new service is also part of Iberojet’s growth strategy and its commitment to strengthening long-haul connections from Barcelona.

Demand between San Salvador and Barcelona has grown significantly in recent years. In 2024, nearly 8,000* round-trip passengers were recorded, a figure that reached 11,600* passengers in 2025, representing a 44% increase. These figures, corresponding to round-trip passengers, are provided by Sabre.

This new connection will boost Barcelona’s international connectivity with Central America and create new opportunities for tourism, business, and cultural exchange.

The ties between Barcelona and Catalonia and El Salvador have strengthened considerably in recent years, particularly in the tourism, business, and social sectors. In this regard, Barcelona and Catalonia have specific tools in place to promote trade cooperation and the internationalization of local companies in the Salvadoran market, while also working to facilitate the internationalization of Catalan companies and professionals in the Central American country. This collaborative strategy, together with commercial relations and the ties of the Salvadoran community in Catalonia, contributes to strengthening these synergies and consolidating Barcelona as a gateway to El Salvador and Central America.

Barcelona is also home to a significant proportion of the Salvadoran community residing in Catalonia, further strengthening social and family ties between the two territories.
