This new non-stop connection, operated with a state-of-the-art Airbus A330-900neo, strengthens the intercontinental connectivity of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport and further consolidates Barcelona’s position as a strategic gateway between Catalonia and the west coast of the United States.
The new transatlantic route contributes to reinforcing Catalonia’s position as a leading international destination for both tourism and business, while also strengthening economic ties with the United States. This connection facilitates the attraction of U.S. investment and fosters the development of partnerships in areas such as innovation, trade, and technology. In this regard, Seattle – renowned for its powerful technology ecosystem and the presence of companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing – further establishes itself as a strategic gateway for companies seeking to collaborate with or expand into Europe.
With this addition, Seattle becomes Delta’s fourth direct destination from Barcelona, alongside Atlanta, New York JFK, and Boston, reflecting the airline’s sustained commitment to the Barcelona market and the strengthening of transatlantic links. In this context, the Barcelona–Boston route is also being reinstated today, increasing its frequency from 3 to 7 weekly flights compared to summer 2025.
BARDC particularly highlights the strategic value of this new route, which will enhance both business travel and tourism exchange between the two regions, as well as opportunities for collaboration in fields such as innovation, technology, and industry.
Synergies between Catalonia and Seattle are based on strong alignment in key sectors such as technology, innovation, biomedicine, and the digital economy. Both regions host dynamic startup ecosystems, leading research centres, and a strong presence of major international companies, fostering the exchange of talent, knowledge, and investment. In this context, direct connectivity opens up new opportunities for high-value tourism and business collaboration, reinforcing economic and academic ties with strong long-term growth potential.
BARDC will continue working closely with airlines and institutions to promote new routes that contribute to economic development and the international projection of Barcelona and Catalonia.
