Barcelona-El Prat Airport closes January with 11.4% more passengers
- More than 2.8 million passengers passed through the airport

Barcelona-El Prat Airport started the year with passenger growth of 11.4% compared to the same month in 2016. Specifically, 2,804,092 passengers passed through the Barcelona facility in January.
Passengers on international flights were the ones to grow the most with a 12.1% increase compared to January last year. Domestic flight users also increased, recording growth of 9.8%.
In relation to intercontinental routes, passenger flights to Latin America and the Caribbean recorded the highest growth in January, with a 35.8% increase, followed by the Middle East (+ 16.9%), Africa (+10.4 %) and North America (+ 9.3%).
As for operations, 20,848 aircraft movements were recorded in January, representing an increase of 7.8% over the same month in 2016. National movements were the ones to grow the most, by 10.4% compared to January last year. Meanwhile, international operations recorded a rise of 7.2%.
Finally, air cargo continues to grow at the beginning of the year. In January, 10,330 tonnes of goods were transported, 11.4% up on the same month the previous year. Domestic origin/destination cargo, which recorded 40.5% growth, stands out, while international freight was up 10.2%.
