Barcelona is the third favourite European city for entrepreneurs for founding a start-up, according to a study published by the British investment firm Atomico. In 2017, Barcelona went up a position compared with 2016 and has remained among the 5 favourites for the past three years. Only London and Berlin are above Barcelona in this ranking.
This study is based on a survey of 300 entrepreneurs who responded to the question “Where would you start if you could start from scratch?”. 21% of those surveyed chose Barcelona. The report highlights the internationality of the city, given that 90% of the votes received come from outside Spain.
In the 30 years of the life of Barcelona Activa, more than a thousand companies have passed through the incubation spaces of the local development agency. 80% of the projects that have reached four years have gone ahead and the average return is of 600,000 euros.
Once incubated, companies and start-ups can enjoy the services, programmes and activities of the Business Support Office.
