INTERCONTINENTAL 2016 MARKET ANALYSIS
• Barcelona has grown in all intercontinental destinations above the Spanish average, gaining market share. Strong growth towards North America due to the new routes and frequencies, as well as to Latin America because of the commitment of LATAM Airlines and its new route to Lima. Growth also of market share towards Asia-Pacific, where Barcelona already represents close to 44% of the Spanish origin and destination passengers.
• New routes to Washington, Sal, Constantine, Lima, Lahore and Islamabad, as well as increased cargo operations by Emirates, Saudia Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
• Emirates lead the growth in capacity because of the double a380 daily, offering more than 160,000 additional seats. Latam increases its commitment to Barcelona, with over 100,000 extra seats offered due to the new route to Lima with 3 weekly frequencies and the continuity of the daily flight to Sao Paulo. Considerable rise in capacity also of Turkish Airlines and United, which with the new route to Washington has increased its offer by 62%.
