Luxury tourism chooses Barcelona as the second best destination in the world
Barcelona is the second favourite destination for luxury tourism worldwide, behind New York, according to a study conducted by Condé Nast Johansens among about 725 users of its destination guides and hotels.
These two cities are at the forefront of the preferences of high-spending tourists, who also express their desire to visit European destinations such as Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Dublin, and Copenhagen.
When asked the question as to what type of accommodation they are considering for their vacations in the next two years, 76% of travellers responded a cruise, 73% a luxury hotel, and 70%, a hotel chain.
The type of room is fundamental for the luxury traveller, since 45% of respondents claimed they booked the highest category of suite available. The average annual expenditure of the luxury traveller ranges from € 3,465 to € 6,295 per person, a figure well above the average annual expenditure of the usual travellers visiting Spain, which is € 1,072.
83% of travellers who follow destination guides and luxury hotels have an average annual income of approximately € 128,000 and carry out an average of between one and four trips a year, between long-stay holidays, short-term trips, and short weekend breaks.
